Welcome New Executive Director – Carolyn Grawi

Carolyn L. Grawi, MSW, LMSW, ACSW, ADAC

The CIL Disability Resource Center (CILDRC), a nonprofit organization, that assists individuals with disabilities achieve their goals of independence. CILDRC has provided services to the community since 1980. CILDRC announces the selection of Carolyn L. Grawi, MSW, LMSW, ACSW, ADAC as its new Executive Director. We are very pleased to announce this appointment, reported Chris Walker, CPA, as well as the CILDRC Board Selection Committee. Carolyn will bring leadership and creativity to the Centers programs and a deep sense of commitment to our regions nonprofit sector. She has served nonprofits at all levels in program, fundraising, executive and leadership levels, and has a breadth of perspective and experience.

Carolyn will fill the vacancy created by the Centers loss of Frank G. Cherry in July 2017. The selection was made after a national search and selection process.

Carolyn served as the Executive Director of the Ann Arbor Center for Independent Living Center since 2014. She brings more than 12 years of service from the Ann Arbor Center for Independent Living. During that time she accomplished a great many things. Notable highlights of her service and commitment include:

  • Ensuring financial stability and growing funding and private philanthropy
  • More than doubling the number of services provided between 2014-2017
  • Establishing and continually expanding the disability awareness and education program in district-wide K-12 schools
  • Tirelessly working to increase access for individuals with disabilities to public education, public rights of way, transportation, and voting throughout Washtenaw, Livingston, and Monroe Counties and throughout State of Michigan
  • Partnering with numerous businesses, governments, healthcare organizations, schools, and universities to promote inclusion of people with disabilities

Carolyns resume includes over 25 years of executive planning, social work, teaching, administration, communications and marketing experience in the nonprofit sector.She provides leadership and supervision to diverse teams; an advocate for civil rights; communities relationship building; casework to develop reasonable accommodations for consumers in employment and housing; department activities, training, presentations; provide educational consultations on accessibility and sensitivity to city governments, libraries, schools, transit providers, builders and developers; recommended and implemented policies in conflict management, and other issues.

Upon leaving Ann Arbor Center for Independent Living, Carolyn remarked “I was fortunate enough that I had a long-running career with them,” she said. “I loved the time I spent there and I want to see the Ann Arbor Center for Independent Living continue to do great things in the future. I am looking forward to my new role to serve as the Executive Director with the CIL Disability Resource Center. I am dedicated to this work because it provides vital human services and cultural enrichment to our community.
