About Us: Programs and Services

 

Welcome to the Western Gate of the Sunshine State where many people  with disabilities live, work and play independently and make choices for themselves.  A place where others long to live.

To assist individuals with disabilities achieve their goals of independence.

Organizational Vision

Our programs and services cover:

 Escambia, Santa Rosa, Okaloosa and Walton Counties

 If you have a disability and need help give us a call or come in, hours of operation are 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM.

Information and Referral:  Resource Library and Referrals to Community Services and Programs

Peer Mentoring:  One person with a disability talking to another person with a disability

Housing:  Referrals for housing or home modification

Advocacy:  Know your rights under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), local and state building codes and other federal laws protecting the rights and responsibilities of people with disabilities and the obligations of organizations who serve people with disabilities.

Independent Living Skills Training:  Assistance with writing your resume’, keeping your check book, calling for transportation, obtaining an assistive device, etc.

Loan Locker:  Free short- and long-term loans of equipment, such as wheelchairs, walkers, canes, and etc.

Assistive Technology Program:  Short-term loans of assistive technology on a “try before you buy” basis; assistive technology assessments and training; alternative finance solutions for the purchase of assistive technology.

Florida Telecommunications Relay Distribution Center (FTRI):    FTRI is a statewide non profit 501(c)3 organization that administers the Specialized Telecommunications Equipment Distribution Program for citizens of Florida who are Deaf, Hard of Hearing, Deaf/Blind and Speech Disabled.  FTRI is also responsible for the education and promotion of the Florida Relay Service.

Community Transition:  Community Transition is assisting people with disabilities to move out of nursing homes and other institutions into independent lifestyles of their choice; helping to prevent people with disabilities from entering institutions; and assisting youth in transitioning from high school to adult life including next steps such as going to college or obtaining employment Youth.Transition.Brochure (Click link to download brochure).  Come visit us for training and resources on community transition.
